Why is suffering so pervasive? How can we escape it?

The Four Noble Truths provide a structured outline of the Buddhist teachings in their entirety. They present a spiritual perspective on (1) the nature of life, which is suffering; (2) the causes of suffering; (3) enlightenment, the unconditioned state beyond suffering; and (4) the methods that enable us to free ourselves from suffering.
