There were over a dozen schools of Buddhist philosophy in ancient India. They thrived in a context where debates between proponents of different views were public events and the highlights of the cultural calendar. Debates between religions were common and followed shared rules of logic and reasoning. Today only a small number of these Buddhist schools survive. Their perspectives and arguments are critically presented here in brief.
